Modern Harpsichord

Many of us are used to consider modern repertoire for harpsichord as a “rediscovery” of the instrument eventhough harpsichords never actually ceased to exist since the time they were born. Though, it is true that music history eventually reached a point in which harpsichords were considered old, weak, limited… in other words: obsolete.

I got very curious in seeking through all the possible points of view composers took to look at this new-old machine. Some would elevate it as on a pedestal of a museum, others would start building from its ashes, still others will be intrigued by its unique features and obscure corners.

These two playlists (the first one being a filtered selection of the second) are the fruit of an online research which I’ve been working on since 2018. They are both avaiable on spotify.
